track of the weather download the free wbtv weather app it has alerts to warn you of problems. >> a troubling case out of caldwell county. a man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend and their two-year-old son. and tonight we are hearing from the man's daughters who say their father has an abusive past and has hurt them. wbtv's brody o'connell is live with their reaction. what can the suspect's daughters have to say? >> good evening and you have to excuse me i'm competing with the church bells chiming here. i did speak to the suspect's daughters. both very upset to find out that according to police their own father violently attacked their two stepbrothers but they said they wanted county leaders to know what they call their father's violent history. >> still to this day am scared
i feel sick to my stomach when i see him. >> last night's violent attack should not have happened. the 25-year-olds tell wbtv their father henry pits has a long history of abuse. >> my mom took most of the beatings most of the time. but we've dealt it until we was like 13, 14, my mom left and we quit talking to him. we see him now and then. >> wbtv investigated and found between september of 1999 and november of 2008 pits was charged eight times with assault on a female but all charges were dismissed. it's not clear why. however, sonya and samantha say their father's abusive behavior was known outside of the criminal system. this year, the sisters reached out to caldwell county dss to warn them about their father who was a threat to his girlfriend and two sons. >> i called department of social
they did two visits and did not do a drug test and i told them he was on hard drugs. >> they should be at fault for what my dad done because they knew it we told them before it happened. >> wbtv reached out to dss for comment our call was not returned. samantha and sonjia brought this picture of their stepbrother to the crime scene as a reminder of the life that could have been lost. >> i want to let you know that pits made his first court appearance today. he is held right now on bond. also he will make another appearance in the first week of april. and count on wbtv to keep you updated every step of the way. live in lenoir, brody o'connell wbtv on your side. >> thank you. we have new information on the number of mumps cases here in north carolina. the north carolina department of health says there are six con confirmed cases in the state.
and some of the patients have already recovered. >> right now, another heated exchange of words in the race for the white house. donald trump's plan to win the g.o.p. nomination just got hit by an incoming attack from mitt romney. >> romney threw himself back into the discussion not to back another candidate but to try to take donald trump out. attacking his policies and personality. as expected trump fired back at a rally in maine. this is a far cry from 2012 when romney sought trump's blessing while he was running for president. >> donald trump is a phony, a fraud he is playing the american public for suckers. he gets a free ride to the white house. >> mitt is a failed candidate. he failed. he failed horribly. we cannot take another loss and mitt is, indeed, a choke artist. >> we are sure to hear more from trump tonight when the four

>> paul just a month ago spokesman for ncdot defended the track record of sentra and the troubles including 130 in texas. that is the toll road that went bankrupt yesterday. we were on that road weeks ago and saw few other cars. but experts said sentra financed the project using inflated ridership project shos and and troubles when the road remained empty. governor mccrory says that is why he is sending his transportation secretary to texas to look at the business model and evaluate the contract. the question some say governor mccrory should have been asking years ago. >> why did you wait until now why didn't you asked years ago? >> we have been asking the questions but these are separate corporate entities some have been successful and others have not.
for sentra repeated the talking point about the companies being two separate companies and they look forward to continuing their work in north carolina. and at 6:00 governor mccrory answers more questions. >> new information in the case of a man charged for killing his mother in south charlotte. irwin feldman is accused of killing his 8 2-year-old mother in 20 fourteen. a search warrant states that on the evening of her murder her son drafted a list of his mother's assets and intended to distribute them to family members. but a life insurance policy was not on the list. police later learned ms. feldman did have a policy and that her son irwin was the beneficiary. the proceeds from that policy were paid to irwin feldman. the warrant states there is biological evidence linking irwin feldman to the crime
>> family, friends and coworkers mourning the loss of a young mother gunned down and killed in the parking lot at work. the man responsible is charged with the murder of rachelle and the attempted murder of her co-worker cody watts. pamela escobar live from the mcdonald's which reopened after closed most of today. do we know anything more about motives here? >> well, hickory police say it was domestic in nature. i spoke with rachelle's family by phone and they were not ready to do an interview. but what they did tell me the man arrested eric young is the father of her kids. rachelle lyle, a shift manager at mcdonald's on 321 was gunned down around dinnertime. her family says she was talking with the manager cody watts. the catawba county district attorney says eric young rammed watt's truck with his vehicle. investigators say lyle
young shot and killed lyle and began shooting in watt's truck. hickory police found cody watts suffering from gunshot wounds. he was taken to the hospital and lyle was pronounced dead. thursday the mcdonald's was closed during the day. signs posted said our restaurant is temporarily closed as we mourn the recent loss and injury of two of our mcdonald's family members. while the people involved knew one another nearby businesses say the shooting was scary and a shock. now prosecutors say watts was taken to wake forest medical center and found with life-threatening injuries fer injuries. yownt was in court and he is facing both murder and attempted murder charges. reporting live in hickory, pamela escobar wbtv on your side. >> thank you. time for a check on our roadways. here is tonya rivens in the first alert traffic center. >> thank you. your first alert traffic is

the other is a request for legal separation. crystal gambino faced a judge this afternoon after being formally charged with the murders. police say the victims along with crystal's husband were found naked and shot to death in this home. the court records detail some strife in the marriage. in 2009 crystal claimed her husband threatened to kill her and take their child. in the same year she petitioned the court for a legal separation and claimed giovanni was a physical threat to her and her children. both were dismissed the same year. gambino is scheduled to be in court march 23 but the district attorney expects gambino will be indicted by a grand jury by that time. kristen hampton wbtv on your side. >> you may have seen this video of a store clerk fighting off this armed robber. tonight she is describing the

headed to a school bus accident. between raymond church road and gilliard road and the alternate route is statesville highway 21 which is congested and heeun is congested, slow-moving traffic on the roads in huntersville. on the dot camera, just looking at the slow-moving traffic on the mapping system on i-77. slow-moving traffic 32-miles-per-hour. keep in mind the barriers due to the construction zone but traffic is backed up on i-77 this is the scene towards gilliard and 77 and 485 that is a lot of traffic. >> thank you. and temperature-wise hard to believe we were seeing snowflakes. >> it looked like a boundary, i will be candid i'm scratching my head what the actual dynamic parameter was that produced

it is a topsy-turvy forecast. 40 still at cpcc. as we take you to the future-cast snowing in the high country through 11:00 p.m. with the rain beginning to taper here across the piedmont. numbers will go down but no, we are not going to be plunging down toward the freezing mark. here it is again. your future-cast through the overnight hours snow is tapering off in the mountainsment but not before an inch in the highest elevations 2 or 3 could fall. but that is going to set them up for a very, very nice ski weekend againment by the morning, rain moving off to the east and chilly conditions 39 . happy friday. into the weekend time-frame with clearing skies 56 friday. and nice looking weekend near 60. how about that? and then little chance of rain as we take you into the early half of next week. the headline has to be the temperatures surging into the mid-70s.

on wbtv news is sponsored by... we got new information about a police shooting in raleigh. straight to alex giles in the alert center. >> we got new information from the wake county district attorney, our affiliate is reporting this 24-year-old denkins was shot after officers tried to arrest him on a felony drug charge and that suspect was shot four times by the police officer. that information from the wake county district attorney. a report from the carolina medical examiner shows a wound to the right chest, arm and shoulder. his mother had said she was told by a witness he was shot in the back. again that is the shooting case
officer-involved shooting in raleigh this week. back to you. >> thank you. new at 5:00 another case of the zika virus in north carolina. one person in the county contracted the virus while traveling aboard this is the first case in wake county and the fifth case in the state of north carolina. the department of health has reportedly hired two medical entomologists to track where the mosquitoes capable of transmitting the zika virus live here in north carolina. >> next, north carolina's voter id law is in effect not everyone is happy about it.
